03 — GYMS & STUDIOS

Gym and fitness studio website design — five example builds

A class studio, a membership gym, a CrossFit box, a yoga studio and a personal trainer. Same trade, nothing in common.

People check two things before they join a gym: is there a class at a time I can make, and can I sign up now without speaking to anyone. A timetable that is a PDF from January and a 'contact us to join' button lose both of those people, and they do not come back a second time.

After sign-up the job changes entirely. Retention is the whole economics of the trade, and the sites that keep members are the ones that show progress: classes attended, a streak, a personal best, a weight chart, credits remaining, the next session booked. That information already exists in the business — putting it in front of the member is what turns it into renewals.

The third thing is friction at the door. A scannable pass, a live how-busy chart, a drop-in price stated in the header, a waiting-list that fills the cancelled spot automatically. These are small features that decide whether someone comes on a Tuesday in November.

The five builds here are a credit-based class studio, a membership gym with an online join and an entry pass, a CrossFit box led by the daily workout, a yoga studio with an at-home video library, and a personal trainer with goal-led programme pricing. Content is invented; your build follows your timetable, your coaches and your membership rules.

What these businesses usually need

  • A live timetable with remaining spots
  • Join or buy credits online, no phone call
  • Member area showing progress and history
  • Entry pass, busy-times and drop-in pricing
  • Self-service freeze, cancel and rebook
